Day 13: Crook to ~North Platte
Thursday, August 6
Ripping descent from Tahoe into Carson City. Stopped at McDonalds to refuel and recharge. Unfortunately can’t find an outlet anywhere; asked employee but they were no help. They’re slammed for lunch rush

Ohhhhh yes

Haven’t done a very good job charging power bank at other stops. First recharge

First stop before heading out of South Lake Tahoe: Heidi’s Pancake House 😋

Wednesday, August 5
Damn. Showers cost a few quarters but I have none. Guess it’s not in the cards for me tonight. I hand rinsed my cycling clothes, hopefully will be dry in a couple of days. Starting to edit video for first few days. Will finish tmw - need to sleep
My hands are cramping, my quads, my calves. I’m coughing uncomfortably while trying to get my dinner down. Covered in sweat salt - need to wash my getup
I grossly underestimated how difficult the climbing today would be. Made it to Tahoe. Got some Chinese food for dinner. Not very hungry but I need to eat. Then to find a campground nearby, hopefully a legal one tonight

Holyyyyy it is so hot today. Lots of water stops. Hoping next chunk of the ride has more tree coverage because most of the day has been in full sun exposure. About 50 more miles to Tahoe

Good morning from Folsom

Hopped into sleeping bag at 5am. it was bearable with only a sleeping bag liner, but not as pleasant
Tuesday, August 4
Also worth noting, and I assure you, this isn’t purely driven by laziness, but I’m experimenting with no sleeping pad nor sleeping bag tonight. It’s not very cold here, and I often enjoy laying on hard ground. There’s a bit of natural fluff from some of the dead grasses my tent is on top of. If I’m too uncomfortable in the middle of the night, I’ll set it all up. Will repot back
Tent is pitched and I am now horizontal. I may have selected an illegal campsite just off a walking path, but it was getting dark and didn’t seem like I was very close to any campsites along my route; oh well. Setting alarm for tomorrow morning so as to try and not disturb anyone with my presence during their morning exercising. Good first day. I think I did a pretty okay job at eating enough food. Could’ve used more water in latter half of the ride. Incredible tailwind coming out of the south this afternoon. Very nice route which followed bike routes and paths almost the entire way; thanks STEVE!
Bridge bike path is out. Waiting for shuttle to carry me over

Bicycle christened ✅

On the road!

Early morning at coffee shop in San Rafael. Last minute route planning before heading to FedEx to ship my laptop off and heading off. First stop: the pacific
