Tuesday, August 4
Early morning at coffee shop in San Rafael. Last minute route planning before heading to FedEx to ship my laptop off and heading off. First stop: the pacific

On the road!

Bicycle christened ✅

Bridge bike path is out. Waiting for shuttle to carry me over

Tent is pitched and I am now horizontal. I may have selected an illegal campsite just off a walking path, but it was getting dark and didn’t seem like I was very close to any campsites along my route; oh well. Setting alarm for tomorrow morning so as to try and not disturb anyone with my presence during their morning exercising. Good first day. I think I did a pretty okay job at eating enough food. Could’ve used more water in latter half of the ride. Incredible tailwind coming out of the south this afternoon. Very nice route which followed bike routes and paths almost the entire way; thanks STEVE!
Also worth noting, and I assure you, this isn’t purely driven by laziness, but I’m experimenting with no sleeping pad nor sleeping bag tonight. It’s not very cold here, and I often enjoy laying on hard ground. There’s a bit of natural fluff from some of the dead grasses my tent is on top of. If I’m too uncomfortable in the middle of the night, I’ll set it all up. Will repot back
Wednesday, August 5
Hopped into sleeping bag at 5am. it was bearable with only a sleeping bag liner, but not as pleasant
Good morning from Folsom

Holyyyyy it is so hot today. Lots of water stops. Hoping next chunk of the ride has more tree coverage because most of the day has been in full sun exposure. About 50 more miles to Tahoe

I grossly underestimated how difficult the climbing today would be. Made it to Tahoe. Got some Chinese food for dinner. Not very hungry but I need to eat. Then to find a campground nearby, hopefully a legal one tonight

My hands are cramping, my quads, my calves. I’m coughing uncomfortably while trying to get my dinner down. Covered in sweat salt - need to wash my getup
Damn. Showers cost a few quarters but I have none. Guess it’s not in the cards for me tonight. I hand rinsed my cycling clothes, hopefully will be dry in a couple of days. Starting to edit video for first few days. Will finish tmw - need to sleep
Thursday, August 6
First stop before heading out of South Lake Tahoe: Heidi’s Pancake House 😋

Haven’t done a very good job charging power bank at other stops. First recharge

Ohhhhh yes

Ripping descent from Tahoe into Carson City. Stopped at McDonalds to refuel and recharge. Unfortunately can’t find an outlet anywhere; asked employee but they were no help. They’re slammed for lunch rush

Pit stop outside of Silver Springs. Ah yes, August

Soldiered on to hit 120 miles today before pulling off to the side of the road and setting up tent. I think I might be on BLM land so this may be the first lawful campsite of the trip. Just finished my Chinese take away left overs from last night. Planning on hitting the ground rolling early tomorrow - I’m in the middle of the first big stretch between towns without water/services. I’m hoping that an earlier start will help reduce my need for water with the extreme heat I’m seeing in the middle of the day. In preparation for these service-less stretches, I bought x2 1L Smart Water bottles and a 2L hydration bladder at Walmart earlier to bring my carrying capacity up to ~7.5L. Chat GPT says some people have a max carrying capacity of 10L!
Friday, August 7
Made it to resupply point between Fallon and Austin. Pancakes and lots of water

Waiting out for sun to die down before finishing the day just past Austin
More water for next stretch

Pizza for dinner! Haven’t had many crisp vegetables last few days so the salad hittt.

Saturday, August 8
Getting packed to head east for Eureka this morning. Not sure where I’ll setup camp for today yet - if I push on from Eureka during middle of day, the heat will sap my water more quickly than if I ride morning and night. We’ll see

Made it to Eureka. Plenty of day left but a bit worried about water and heat. Going to head to the gas station in a bit to see if anyone headed towards Ely would be willing to stash a gallon of water for me halfway between. I think it’s 77 miles to Ely with a bit of elevation gain - not awful for a 10/11am start normally, but will see about water Eating leftover pancakes for breakfast and a breakfast burrito and chocolate milk and Gatorade

Maybe halfway to Ely. Met a supported group riding Virginia Beach -> SF at the supermarket before heading out of Eureka. They were kind enough to give me some water, Gatorade, and watermelon at one of their rest stops about 15 miles outside of town. Currently stopping for lunch and to reapply sunblock. Leftover pizza mmmm Shade is hard to come by round these parts

Arrived in Ely - big day today. Was getting chased by a thunderstorm on the last climb so pushed harder than I would’ve otherwise. Devouring some Mexican food. Need to figure out where I’m staying tonight and plan route for tomorrow. (Sorry, already ate the tostada)

Found some BLM land just around the corner and have my tent setup. I was debating on staying at an RV park and using their shower facilities, but $35!! I still wanted to shower so stopped by a trucker stop and shelled out the $18. If my understanding is correct, the longest no services stretch of the whole trip is between Baker, NV and Delta, UT; it’s around 90 miles, just a bit longer than today’s 2nd leg. I think I’ll plan to depart early again tomorrow from Ely and arrive into Baker around 10/11am. I’m not sure I’ll be interested in doing a 150 mile day tomorrow, and I fear the heat will be worse than today since I lucked out with small storms towards the end of the ride today. Will make a game time decision in Baker on tomorrow’s stopping point.
Sunday, August 9
Good start to the morning. First stop Baker, then headed for Delta, UTAH! Not sure how far I’ll make it today; will see how I’m feeling around 100. Didn’t sleep much last night- stayed up late editing and posting day 1 video! Check it out on socials

Made it to Baker - small town. Going to post up at the general store for next few hours to wait out the heat for a bit. Very cute shop with nice people behind the counter and outdoor space behind back

Rain!

Monday, August 10
Made it to Delta this morning. Didn’t have cell service last night hence the delayed update. Made it about 50 miles past the border riding into darkness before pitching a tent. Howling winds last night with a short burst of rain which made for subpar sleep. Getting breakfast now. Might try to push on to Provo later today. Water carry stretches should become more manageable going forward, though still looks like I’m in a heat wave - high of 96F here in Delta at 3pm, so will try to get on the road quickly and motor on before peak sun.

Quick pit stop in Eureka, UT. Not to be confused with Eureka, NV. It was a slog getting here through the heat. I was planning on a longer stop here before pushing on to Provo, but the only restaurant is town is closed on Monday, so another 20 miles and I’ll take a proper rest in Santaquin.

Dinner in Santaquin earlier - weird mix of rural feeling plots with urban/suburban density around here

Found a spot to setup tent just south of Provo in a neighborhood(?) called Springville. Asked a pickleball facility if I could pitch tent on their grass and they graciously allowed it! I was warned there have been mountain lion sightings in the area, but I’ll take what I can get. Big climb out of Provo tomorrow. Tomorrow looks like last day of this heat wave, so going to get an early start to finish the climb before noon hopefully
Ugh, just finished editing day 2 video and posting. Lucky if I get 6 hours sleep
Tuesday, August 11
Stopped at a great little Guatemalan pandería this morning on my way out of Provo. Chatted with owner Marlon for a bit while enjoying his creations. Worst road so far coming out of Provo. Quick pit stop before tackling 8k summit this afternoon - getting bike drivetrain cleaned, tuned, and new bar tape. Oh and tacos while I wait for service

Made it to Duchesne. Nice steady climb up to Daniels Pass - meh drivers. I thought it was gonna be a straight shot down after summit, but more rolly hills at 7k feet which meant I planned timing poorly. Would’ve liked to finish earlier than I did, but it actually worked out alright - I was stressing a little about daylight when I was still 50 miles out at 5pm. It didn’t help that a thunderstorm that was on my coat tails much of the ride down from the top. Made a camp down by the river, shhh don’t tell anyone. Raining a bit; hopefully clothes dry a little by morning. Looks like heat wave is gone and now maybe rain for next few days as I enter Colorado. Need to get some better sleep tonight
Wednesday, August 12
Puffy eyes this morning. Best sleep I’ve had recently. Stopped in Roosevelt for quick breakfast before continuing on to Dinosaur, CO

Crossed over into Colorado earlier today - it was a real doozie riding east across from Utah into a headwind, but can’t complain as I’ve been treated fairly from the wind gods nicely thus far. Had dinner in Dinosaur and pedaled on for a bit until making camp. Going to try and get more sleep tonight to see if that helps with eye puffiness. In sleeping bag now, and will have lights out by 9, alarm set for 6. Will make it through Craig tomorrow and need to now plan how far I’ll go past Craig. The next few days touch the highest elevation on the whole route, so I want to make sure I’m not camping in a spot that’s too cold or load too much elevation onto one day if I can split it up. I tried to find a postcard in Dinosaur, but the gas station attendant told me no one sold them - seems like a missed opportunity.

Oooooooo!!!!! Okay. I think tomorrow flat 100 to Steam Boat springs and then FRIDAY: Steam Boat Springs to Fort Collins. Will be a big day
Thursday, August 13
Slept mucccch better last night. I almost didn’t pitch the rain fly and it did rain last night so I’m happy I did. Lunch stop in Craig today - about the midpoint between Dinosaur and Steamboat Springs. Quick recharge and sandwich before hopping back on the bike. Would like to get camp setup on the earlier side since I’ll want an early start tomorrow morning, so no dilly dallying. I ran into Elliot, @rollingonfoot, a few minutes into my ride this morning. He’s walking across the country from Nashville to Seattle. Today’s he’s on day 103.

Made it to Steamboat Springs. Currently at library charging up and editing some vids. Need to get dinner, clock a few more miles, and find a place to pitch tent before nightfall. Gonna try and get some good snacks to fuel for morning tomorrow. Also might end up doing 10 extra miles later to cut down tomorrow by 10, looking out for my future self. How does my hair look?

Holy shmoly. Just finished interview with CBS Sacramento. Getting dinner and ditching town Airs 10pm tonight pacific

Okay! So that extra 10 miles today turned out to be the first big climb for tomorrow! Tomorrow is now looking leaner than ever, and I’m sleeping at 9,300ft tonight. I’m bundled up! Met these 2 guys on touring motorcycles who zoomed by me in the climb up and are at the campsite over from me. They’re on day 55 of a 60 day trip. They took their bikes from Indiana all the way up to the Arctic Circle! Going to prioritize a good night’s rest again. Hopefully up and going by 7 tomorrow. Tomorrow we hit 10k and then are done with mountains - bittersweet
Friday, August 14
Update from this morning got lost :/ Stopped in Walden for some breakfast - huevos rancheros and some tacos. Wanted to get a cinnamon roll but they were all sold out. Then set out for tallest peak on the trip and summited around 2pm

Oh! The CBS Sacramento piece was published last night and I watched it this morning. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet!

Currently having dinner in Fort Collins. Got rained on coming down from the Rockies and made it into town a short while ago. Found a campsite on Google Maps and heading there in next few minutes to get some rest

Saturday, August 15
Starting my day! Wet feet should dry up soon. Nice temperature this morning. Not sure my end destination today, but I mapped out if I hit around 130miles/day for the remainder, I’ll finish at the end of day 26, so that’ll be my new target mileage. Excited to see what no climbing feels like today :)

Couple snacks at Safeway and lil meal at Taco Bell to start the day

Rain! Thunderstorm! Not my first one of the trip, but I managed to duck into a gas station just minutes before it picked up. Guess gas station dinner it is, then have a bit more before calling it a day. Rain should let up within the hour

Second puncture of the day at dusk! Oof. Was about 6 miles from potential campsite. Popped the front light on and carefully rode in. The nice lady at trucker stop gas station said I could pitch tent next to the big semis. Time to patch some tubes and sleeeeep
Sunday, August 16
not what you want to see before you start a ride. Both tubes out, hopefully fixed . Pumped now. Sorry for terse update but just get me out of Colorado. Hopefully get to the border before noon

More wheel issues earlier. Seems like it’s resolved for now. Will make it to North Platte this afternoon - hoping to get a new spare tube there, maybe Walmart?? Quick stop to eat, rest, and charge phone

Oh, and in Nebraska!

Oh and looks like I should cross into central time zone from mountain time later today, or I already have, I’m not sure where the line is exactly. Haven’t seen any road signs mentioning it
learning about vulcanization

Monday, August 17
HOLY that was a day. Made it to North Platte because I’m stubborn. Couldn’t figure out repairing punctures so hitched a ride with a VERY kind man to Walmart, got tubes, and motored through the night. Midnight here now, looks like I crossed to central time at some point.
Good morning! Stayed at a campsite next to a trucker stop last night. Bought a new wall charger to get x3 devices charging simultaneously instead of x1 - almost all my devices were near dying this morning, so this will help with battery anxiety. Going to get phone quick charged to 80% and get on the road. There’s a bike shop that opens at 10am here and I’m not sure when the next bike shop is, so I think I’ll get there as they open to pump up tires to better pressure, look to get a replacement rear tire, and maybe 1 more spare tube so to have 2 good spares on hand

Pit stop in Lexington. It’s a hot today!

The shoulder here is bumpy - lots of those black marks across the road. I think it’s a tar filler from freeze/thaw cracking?? Why must the cracks only be in the shoulder??? I had a little spill earlier and I’m blaming it on one of the bumps - a combination of sweaty bar tape mixed with sun screen and it’s hard to hold a grip when your front wheel is banging down in a crack. No need to worry, I’m okay and bike is okay. Have been more mindful of my newly adopted eagle death grip since.
Thought I was sneaky and pitched a tent behind an empty trailer at the community center but then 5 minutes later, a trucker comes and parks his truck. I got up to make sure I wasn’t going to be in his way and he said I was all good, just that he parked a reefer that would be loud throughout the night. Few minutes later and trucker returns to advise me to setup in the front room of the community center since there’s a storm tonight. So here we are The left wall is totally visible to the road and the light doesn’t turn off so just hoping I don’t get kicked out mid slumber

Tuesday, August 18
Storm has almost passed. Thunder and lightning is still overhead as I type this, a car just pulled straight into the parking lot and is parked directly in front of me. Uh oh
Turns out the school bus pickup spot is the community center parking lot. More cars started pulling in before the bus finally arrived. I packed as quickly as I could and left and made it out of there. On the road for a few miles before rain picks back up, so breakfast it is

I loathe taking meds for pain management but after fall yesterday, my knee has little bruise that has been bothering me. Going to grab some advil to make the riding today a bit more pleasant

Doing much better on timing today. Stopped here in Valparaiso for water and snack. The last 10 miles have turned into nice rolly hills - a welcome change from the last few days. I was using Lincoln, NE as a milestone counter today, only to find out that my route doesn’t pass through - bummer.

Arrived in Ashland. Mexican for dinner - just down the road from campsite. I feel good and could go for another hour or two but I’m going to catch up on sleep tonight and give my knee more rest. It’d also be more difficult to find a campsite since I’m just outside of Omaha now, so..

Need to charge up a bit longer - ice cream it is (I’m too worried to invert it for the picture)

At campsite - met a lad who is walking to Lincoln, NE to pickup a bike tomorrow. He’s been walking across the country for a while now - said he started somewhere in South Dakota I think. It’s warm here! I begrudgingly threw up my rain fly because of 10% chance of rain. Hoping to get some good rest tonight. Sweet dreams!
Wednesday, August 19
Passed through Omaha this morning and into Iowa! Unfortunately, the pedestrian bridge I took over the Missouri river didn’t have a “Welcome to Iowa” sign, or at least I missed it. Stopping for lunch at Subway now

Bacon cheeseburger for dinner. Met a nice group who just got back from the Iowa state fair today They made a bet guessing how many miles I rode today. The over under was 11 🙃

Ha! There was a final bet around whether or not I had any lint in my belly button. Any guesses?? Pushed a few extra miles after dinner and the nice gas station attendants in Dexter, IA let me setup camp around back. I took another x2 200mg of ibuprofen throughout the day today. It didn’t feel much better than yesterday, but I hope it’s on the mend. A lot more elevation today than I anticipated, over 5,000ft! I think tomorrow looks similar. Tomorrow routes through Des Moines and looking to stop somewhere between Parnell and Iowa City.
Thursday, August 20
Up and out before 8 this morning. Not really sure how to better work around morning dew - at this point, I’ve just accepted I’m putting on wet clothes every morning. Oh, my battery bank I guess was dead last night, so had to half charge a few things at the gas station before heading out. I’d like to get the power bank back to full charge, but I think it needs to sit in for a solid 5 hours. Maybe will try to get it plugged overnight tonight. Made it to Des Moines! Beautiful residential neighborhoods, VERY nice bike paths, gorgeous parks downtown; what am I missing? Are we sleeping on a great city? Getting first big meal at this brunch place near the capital building. Took an advil, knee feeling a little better, maybe? Still long day ahead of me, but feels good to have done a long steady chunk to start the day

Phone low battery and bad service so making this quick. Hit 150 miles today. Ambitious arbitrary goal this week to hit 1,000 miles. 150 helps pickup some slack from earlier in the week. Sleeping in corn field tonight. I think dew problem might only be worse in the morning. Tomorrow passes through Iowa City, then Illinois later in the day!
Friday, August 21
Out of the corn maze and through Iowa City. Nice early start to the morning. Sitting at a gas station charging up phone and electronics because everything was almost dead. Phone died this morning so unfortunately didn’t get any video of Iowa City or corn camp for video :( Iowa City was nice! Feels like a city for University of Iowa. Hopping back on bike in a few minutes. Next stop Davenport! About 50 miles away. Will maybe get lunch there. Davenport sits on the Mississippi River and divides Iowa and Illinois. Trying to hit 150 again today so need to keep the breaks short. One ibuprofen this morning - knee feels okayyy maybe a little better, but I think it’ll help keep the pace higher.

Rear derailleur cable sheared through ! Took about a half hour to fix - luckily , I anticipated it failing so had an extra shifting cable with me. Quick stop at gas station before hitting Davenport.

Made it to Davenport. At a cute lil cafe having a proper lunch: asparagus soup, quiche, panini, bread pudding, pineapple mango smoothie 😍😍

Ugh, too much stoppage time today. Rolled into Mendota at 8:20 after hammering the last hour or two. Was _dark_ towards the end. Was also a bit short on water on the stretch from Mississippi River to Walnut - not as many gas stations along this stretch compared to Iowa. Got a salad and pizza and garlic bread from pizza place and then saw severe thunderstorms approaching. Gas station clerk suggested I try the Amtrak station train museum so here I am. Hopefully I don’t get booted! I’m trying to keep low below the windows Good opportunity to dry out some clothes without morning dew AND should get a full charge on the power bank 😃

Rats - got the cops called on me. They were chilller. Let me setup in the front entryway of the police station I’ll have to report back to gas station clerk and tell him Amtrak locks up after 10pm on Fridays

Saturday, August 22
Earliest start yet! And fully charged power bank - my prayers have been answered. Onto INDIANA!!!

Quickish break under a tree to eat cinnamon roll before pushing into Indiana. I’m just about due south of Chicago right now which is kinda neat! I got the cinnamon roll at breakfast this morning - forgot to log that. There was a couple sitting next to me that I’m pretttttty sure were making remarks to themselves about how much food I was eating hahaahhahaha I think we’ll get into Indiana before 3pm which should mean Illinois crossing will have taken <24 hours 🤯 Oh and no ibuprofen today - knee isn’t 100% but certainly better

Arrived in Stillwell. I’m in Indiana! Couldn’t spot the welcome sign earlier today but then again, it wasn’t a very nice stretch of road as I crossed the border so I was more focused on not getting side swiped by a car in the suburban hellscape of Dyer, IN. So nice arriving to my destination before sunset. Camping behind a dollar general tonight. Was able to charge up and eat dinner (Taco Bell takeout, Dollar General is the only store in this town) outside while sun was setting. Really nice country roads in the last hour getting here which was a treat. Hoping to make a similarly early start tomorrow to finish the day before sunset again. I think I might make it to Ohio, but haven’t measured out on the map yet to see. Exciting if so!
Oh and I think tomorrow I transition into the final timezone of the trip! I briefly looked at a map and seems like the dividing line is somewhere in the middle of Indiana???
Sunday, August 23
Looks like I’m in eastern time zone. Stopped in New Paris, IN. I was looking to get some breakfast, but none of the restaurants are open 🙂 So eating some trail mix and hopping back on. Feels a bit slow going this morning. Should make it to Ohio border by 4 or so I saw what i believe to be some Amish folk this morning. Bikes and horses and buggies

Lunch/breakfast stop in Kendallville. Quick resupply at dollar general before crossing border into Ohio. Unfortunately doesn’t look like there’s a welcome sign along my route , but will take a picture on the dividing line. Doing okay on time/pacing for the day. Time zone shift is messing with my head a bit, but I think I should make it to Bowling Green before sunset

Onto the next

Finished the day in Bowling Green, OH. Longest ride in a while at 167 miles. Tailwind all day helped the body and spirit tremendously. Tomorrow I’ll pass just south of Cleveland, then the following day into Pennsylvania. I’m trying to plan out the final night’s camp spot since it might be harder to find a spot to pitch my tent on the fly just west of Manhattan.
Monday, August 24
First stop of the day in Fremont, OH. Need a phone charge and little (big) snack. The next few towns I pass by are Bellevue and Medina; Seattle subtweet Much chiller mileage targets this week than last week, so not rushing the stops as much today which will be nice 😊

Okay , maybe took too leisurely of a stop earlier in Fremont - I was hoping to get to camp a bit earlier tonight but here we are. Arrived in Akron before sunset, so still not a bad way to finish the day. Had Italian for dinner and got a few snacks at Whole Foods before finding spot for tent. More climbing towards the end of the day than I anticipated. Had some issues loading my route onto my cycling computer midday but it fixed itself eventually, somehow. Tomorrow into Pennsylvania! Not sure how far I’ll go, but will figure it out along the way.
Tuesday, August 25
Off to a good start this morning. Taking a quick break to eat elote corn chips I’ve been carrying since day 1 and a tomato I picked up a few days ago.

Made a breakfast stop in Columbiana, OH earlier today. Crossed border on a country road so unfortunately no crossing sign. Rode through Pittsburgh - some really nice neighborhoods! LOTS OF ROLLING HILLS. Some nasty fast car roads along the route hugging the river - cmon Steve. Exited Pittsburgh and merging back into the countryside which I am a big fan of. Lots more elevation today compared to recent legs. Lots more elevation next few days! Might have a surprise visitor tomorrow 😝 Tomorrow’s plan is to start early, tackle some elevation and finish up somewhere near Penn State Camping on a bit of an incline tonight. Hopefully I’m able to find a good restful position
Wednesday, August 26
Morning breakfast . Foggy start to the day

Quick stop in Dilltown. Chicke. Sandwich, gob (whoopie pie), and a coke. Sitting on the porch

Welcoming sister Willow for the afternoon! Next stop: State College

Willow (biological sister, not a nun) joined me at Spruce Creek to finish out the day in State College. We had Polish food for dinner from a food truck at a nice brewery on the south side of town. She escorted me with headlights to my campsite which was a treat. Tomorrow is last full day in Pennsylvania - I also thinkkkk it might be the last of the bigger Appalachian elevation, but I’m not totally sure.
Thursday, August 27
Had a breakfast sandwich , yogurt parfait, chocolate milk, and baked goods at an Amish cafe around 9. Continued on - trying to find a bathroom now but seems like Pennsylvania gas stations in particular don’t have public restrooms - legally not required to? First state I’ve had issues with this. Not going to reward the restroom-less gas station in Forest Hill with my business. On to Lewisburg Oh also, lottery seems very popular here for some reason. Pennsylvania Lottery even touts that they help pay for parking signage????

Oh Lewisburg - waiting has served me well

I admittedly overindulged in those French pastries earlier. Also , the cake was $15!!! what!??? That’s worse than Seattle prices. I didn’t see the price until it was rung up so at that point I just went with it. Today was allllllright. Lots of elevation towards the very end coming up Sugarloaf and into Hickory Run State Park. I was having a bit more difficulty resuming the ride at each stop I made, tho not terrible. I arrived at campsite around 7:30pm with dinner packed in my backpack - lunchables, trail mix, and an Amish muffin. I was gonna eat in my tent but after filing up my water, I was made aware there’s a bear sitting in the brush a few campsites over from mine, so instead eating at my site’s picnic table, a few feet from my tent with the hope it might deter bear encounters tonight 🤡 Tomorrow looks like more elevation than I anticipated (common theme) but less distance than today, so hopefully will finish up at a reasonable hour again.
Friday, August 28
I have crossed the Delaware and am having lunch in New Jersey! Tough morning - felt a bit ill (I seldom have this recurring sensation of being too warm and I try to cool myself down but it takes a while). Stopped for an OJ and corn muffin but didn’t help much. Pulled over just a few minutes later to rid my stomach of the vile contents and started to feel better. I was suspicious that the water from campsite played a role so haven’t been drinking much water - instead pouring over back of my neck photo: this is the Pequest River that feeds into the Delaware - right next to my diner stop

I’ve made it to just across the river from New York. Boy was it a tough day - hard to properly eat and hydrate. Started feeling better around 6 (after most of the bigger punchy climbs were completed) and was determined to make it to Fort Lee. Rode in the dark for a couple hours. I’m trying to sneak a sleeping bag at the top of a parking garage. Not sure how thoroughly cameras are checked, but I’m out of sight from vehicles. Waiting some time before setting up sleeping bag - gonna see if someone tries to boot me before I try to get some sleep Peep the skyline!!!! Very happy to see it and gave me some extra motivation to keep up the pace to the end

Saturday, August 29
Survived the night without getting kicked out. Early start around 7 - started at a French bakery to charge up and get some food before heading into Manhattan Very fun rolling through the city in the morning - quite nice roads, lots of cyclists out. My friend, Nick, met me near Central Park and we rode through Manhattan and over the Queensboro where Sam was waiting to cheer on. Got a breakfast sandwich at a deli around 11:30. My original route was bringing me down bad bike paths and closed gates so I’ve rerouted and have been on a smoother course for last 2 hours or so

I’ve finished! Enjoying some foooooooooood

Touched tires down to the Atlantic earlier this evening, around 6pm, marking the end of the trip. My parents and friends welcomed me into Orient, NY with a banner and cheers as I made my way for the tip of the fork to hit water. Time to run a wash and take some rest. Excited to catch up on the Vuelta, publish more videos from the trip, and lay down for a bit. Thank you for following along!!!!
